East Hanningfield Primary Academy is part of the Canonium Learning Trust, and as such, the Trust Board is responsible for the overall governance of the Academy supported by the Local Governing Committee.
Canonium Learning Trust has a governance structure that places great importance on local governance arrangements and therefore the Academy also has a Local Governing Committee (LGC).
The Local Governing Committee comprises individuals from the local community, including parents and members of staff. They are responsible for providing oversight of the Academy's educational performance, ensuring that its policies and procedures are appropriate, and promoting the welfare of its students. The LGC works in partnership with the Trust Board to ensure that the Academy operates in line with the Trust's values and objectives.
While the Canonium Trust Board has ultimate responsibility for the governance of the Academy, the Local Governing Committee has a more direct and local focus providing a link between the Academy and the local community and ensuring that the Academy is responsive to the needs of its students, parents, and staff. The LGC also plays an important role in providing feedback to the Trust Board on local issues, which can help inform the Trust's strategic direction.
In addition to the monitoring of educational performance, the LGC also has specific responsibilities working closely with the Academy's senior leadership team to ensure that these areas are managed effectively and that resources are used efficiently.

I joined the governing body in July 2023 and I am looking forward to getting to know the community at East Hanningfield and working together to continue to develop this lovely school. I have been a secondary school teacher with a specialism in Modern Languages since 2007 and my current role is as curriculum leader in an Academy within a Trust in Braintree. I am a practising Anglican and I have two children who have recently been through primary school, a rescue dog and in my free time I love reading, music and traveling.
Having qualified as a secondary school English teacher in the 1970s, I have spent all my working life in education, first in the West Midlands and then in Essex. I have been a governor at East Hanningfield school since 2003, and recently retired from the governing board of another local primary school, after 20 years' service. The school and All Saint's church have always been at the heart of East Hanningfield, and part of my role as Foundation PCC governor is to maintain and further develop the links between our school and the church, as well as to ensure that we draw out the full potential of all our children.
I have a background in nursing, healthcare governance and patient safety. I work for the NHS.
I have been a school governor since 2014. It is important to me to support the school in our village to ensure that we perovide a great education in a small school and that all the children have the chance to achieve their full potential.
(Details to follow)
Before my retirement, I spent the vast majority of my career in education. The last thirty years were spent at East Hanningfield School, mostly as deputy head, and I saw working as a governor as a way to continue my involvement with the commitment to the school. I hope that my knowledge of education in general and East Hanningfield in particular enables me to contribute to the work of the governors in supporting the school and shaping its future.
